Crossovers are a hottest new market segment in the automobile industry. But a 2018 Chevrolet Blazer has much more to it than just Chevy adding a crossover to their line-up. As a matter of fact, they already have a crossover with the Equinox. But adding the Blazer is all about making sure that customers stay within their listing instead of going for some other automaker – read Ford.
2018 Chevrolet Blazer – Redesign
What used to be a full-sized SUV will be down-sized into a crossover with ample room for 5 passengers, i.e. a crossover-cum-SUV. And this is exactly the size ratio which this upcoming model will come in at. With Ford looking to bring their Bronco back into the US market which is strangely the only place where it is not sold, Chevrolet will bring this Blazer back to take it on.
The 2018 Chevrolet Blazer is as official as it can get without an official statement per se. Chevy has shrunk the Equinox and enlarged its Traverse into a 3rd row SUV. This leaves just enough of a gap in this already burgeoning Chevy SUV lineup which includes 5 offerings already.
So the question is how Chevy will accommodate a customer segment with this upcoming Chevrolet Blazer 2018 without affecting the sales of its other models?
But this is actually a clever market strategy. Chevy has launched a 201 Traverse model, but its larger offerings – Tahoe and Suburban are pending updates. The 2017 will show market requirements and allow them to phase out the vehicle which looses out in the longer run of things. But, enough of Chevy, here’s looking at what this 2018 Chevrolet Blazer will have.
Chassis and Exterior Body Design:
This upcoming model will be based on Chevy’s C1XX SUV modular platform. More specifically it will use a longer wheelbase version within the current 2017 Equinox models. As far as styling is concerned, Blazer will incorporate some features from the 2018 Traverse and the current Equinox. A sloping roofline reminiscent to the Equinox is expected along with front and rear lamp cluster designs. Accurate front fascia design cannot be reviewed due to a well-camouflaged test mule.
2018 Chevrolet Blazer – Performance Specs
Of all the speculations around, this model will come with the same engine specifications as the Equinox or even a GMC Acadia.
The base option will be a 2.5-liter DOHC (Direct Over-Head Camshafts) inline-4 engine with VVT (Variable Valve Timing). Power outputs with this engine under the hood with this 2018 Chevrolet Blazer are expected at around 205 hp and 190 lb-ft.
A more powerful option will come in the form of a 3.6-liter V6 DOHC VVT engine. Tweaked performance specs come in at around 325 hp and 290 lb-ft. Although these figures are mostly based on speculations by an industry insider, they are obvious since this model has to be better than the Equinox.
A 6-speed auto transmission along with an RWD drivetrain is expected with this model. Best EPA ratings ought to come in at around 20 mpg combined.
