The stylish model is going to launch as 2018 Chevy Silverado with some design changes. First introduced in 2014 and currently, in its 3rd generation of production, Silverado has been a serious contender to Ford in the segment. The earliest predecessor of Silverado was the Chevy C/K which was a popular light duty truck of its time.
2018 Chevy Silverado – Design Specs
Silverado has always had a simple but appealing look. The 2018 Chevy Silverado retains much of the older look with boxy front appearance. It uses the K2XX platform which has body-and-frame architecture. Although composed of pure steel, a body of this new Silverado will be mostly aluminum to reduce overall weight and provide greater stability to it. The vehicle will stand high on 20-inch chrome plated wheels.
The front fascia of the Silverado tops as the most appealing feature of the pickup car. Two prominent chrome bars adorn the grille along with two-row headlights. LED lighting technology will make up the lights. The signature huge bumpers of Silverado have been retained.
Also added are chrome linings on the mirrors and door handles. Across all trims, options of a single cabin, double cabin, and a crew cabin will be available. Tow capacity of the pickup has been estimated to be a whopping 12,500 lbs.
Functional but Comfortable Interior:
2018 Chevy Silverado, though not meant for luxury, will have a comfortable interior for passengers. For higher trims, drivers can expect high-quality leather on seats and steering wheel, heated and cooled seats and power windows.
An 8-inch touchscreen will control the MyLink infotainment service. The whole console is large with large dials for controls. Expect to have more USB ports in the console, smartphone integration facility and 4G communication system.
Safety controls of the vehicle have been bundled into an Enhanced Driver Alert Package. It will include features like forwarding collision alert, parking assist sensors, lane departure warning and blind-spot monitoring cameras.
2018 Chevy Silverado – Massive Engines
2018 Chevy Silverado will have three options for engines across different trims.
- A 4.3-liter V6 EcoTec3 engine that delivers 285 hp and 305 lb-ft. torque.
- 5.3-liter V8 EcoTec3 engine with power output of 355 hp and torque of 383 lb-ft.
- 6.2-liter V8 EcoTec3 engine with power output of 420 hp and 460 lb-ft.
All variants of the engine will be backed by a unique 8-speed automatic transmission. Higher trims are rumored to get a 10-speed transmission.
For a better fuel efficiency, the new Silverado engine is equipped with cylinder deactivation controls and a direct injection system. Rear wheel drive mode, as well as all-wheel-drive, will be provided. Average fuel consumption should be around 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway conditions, varying across trims.
