2018 Corvette ZR1 Convertible – Under the Hood

The previous ZR1 was last released in 2009 which was succeeded by Corvette’s Z06 lineup. Therefore, expect the Corvette ZR1 Convertible 2018 to be an upgraded version of the latest Z06. While trusted sources claim that Corvette has been working on an LT-5 V8 engine, nothing has been confirmed yet. Expect this ZR1 to come up with a 6.2 Litre supercharged LT4 V8 engine which will produce close to 700 hp of power and 690 lb-ft or torque. An even more powerful engine capable of churning out close to 750 hp is also under speculation which will come mated to a possible 10-speed automatic transmission.

To handle so much power, Corvette will align this engine directly with the Z06’s 7-speed manual transmission. In this world of automatics, this may prove to be a welcome breath of fresh air. The 0-60 mph sprint will come in a meager 2.95 seconds which is more than impressive clocking a top speed of more than 200 mph.

2018 Corvette ZR1 Convertible – Impressive Design

Although not much has been recovered about the exterior styling of the 2018 Corvette ZR1 convertible, yet some striking introduction did catch the eye of spies. One such aspect is a couple of new rear wing designs. While the larger wing is high raised and seems to span the entire breadth of the car, the smaller one is more body-centric and provides the required aerodynamics.

The front fascia of the car is expected to borrow most of its design from the Z06. Sharp and pointed vertically aligned projector headlamps adorn the front of Corvette ZR1 convertible 2018. These are complimented by the jewel-like daytime running lights and led cornering lights. The trademark low flow hood comes with a center placement of the logo succeeded directly by Corvette’s trademark air intake. These air intakes also make their way onto this supercar’s body colored front bumper complimented a couple of fenders on either side.

Being a convertible, it will get an all-black soft roof with touch foldable support. Corvette has opted for a five pointed star design for its 19-inch front wheels and 20 inch rear wheels. These come mated to powerful P285/30ZR19 all-weather race tires which are meant to burn rubber on tarmac. This difference in size not only gives the 2018 Corvette ZR1 convertible an aggressive pose, but also a greater bite on speeding roads.

Do the Interiors live up to the Expectations?

The interiors do not fail to impress either. That D-shaped steering wheel is now becoming a standard in all supercars owing to the increased leg room it provides to the driver. It looks more of a cockpit than a dashboard. With an array of switches, Corvette comes with an 8-inch touchscreen for full in-house control.

Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple Car play come as standard while infotainment has been taken care of with a 10-speaker Bose surround sound system. Other notable features include Sirius XM Satellite Radio, Navigation, Auto-dimming mirrors and ambient lighting in the 2018 Corvette ZR1 Convertible.

Safety Features:

Being such a speedster, one needs to ensure total safety of his passengers. All round airbags come as standard which comes with Active Handling Stability Control. In addition to this parking is aided with rear vision cameras and auto park assist while highway cruising has been made safe with basic features such as Low Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Lane Keep Assist, and Cross Traffic Alert.

Speculations say that Corvette is planning to introduce a roll cage for greater safety during track races, yet that speculation is also yet to be confirmed by the company.
