The 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 diesel will be out to woo truck lovers along with other ranges – the 2500 and 3500; the versions differing in size and power output. GMC has been a top producer of light-duty pickup trucks competing with the likes of Ford vehicles. GMC Sierra is one of GMC’s flagship vehicles in the section since 1988.
2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Diesel – Redesign Exterior and Interior
Do not get confused between the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado as both are mechanically and visually the same. The platform for the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Diesel has been upgraded with more aluminum parts for reducing body weight. Sierra 1500 will continue to have less angular specs and more rectangular accents on the body. Wide wheel arches add to the macho look of the vehicle.
Large chrome grille covers almost the whole front fascia. The GMC badge in red letters at the center of the front grille will be larger than before. LED headlights have been designed as a two-row setup. The bumpers of the new Sierra 1500, incorporating thin line fog lights will also me massive. Chrome door handles and chrome lined mirrors also add to the shine. Wind resistant trailering mirrors will reduce much noise while driving.
The light-duty truck will sit comfortably high off the ground on standard 18-inch steel or aluminum wheels with 20-inch wheels as an option. Payload capacity of the truck will be 2260 lbs and towing capacity will be 12,000 lbs at maximum. 3 different cabin sizes will be offered.
Interior of the vehicle is nothing short of luxury as it is outside. Nuance natural leathers will cover the seats and the telescopic steering wheels. The front seats will be 12-way power adjustable. On the dashboard will be a 4.2-inch instrument display along with an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen at the center. GMC’s Intellilink infotainment service will be loaded with other features like Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone integration, 4G communication facility and ample USB ports.
Advanced dual-zone climate control has been provided along with Bose 7-speaker audio for a pleasant driving experience.
2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Diesel – Engine and Performance
GMC Sierra 1500 diesel 2018 is expected to have 3 variants of an engine with a standard rear wheel drive system and all wheel drive as the option.
- A 4.3-liter V6 turbocharged engine delivering 285 hp power and 305 lb-ft. torque, backed by 6-speed automatic transmission. Fuel efficiency would be around 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway conditions in rear wheel drive mode and 17 mpg city and 22 mpg highway conditions for all wheel drive mode.
- A 5.3-liter V8 EcoTec3 engine will be an option. Maximum power output will be 355 hp and torque will be 383 lb-ft. The transmission will be an 8-speed automatic. Fuel efficiency for this engine is expected to be 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway conditions on average.
- A third option will be a 6.2-liter V8 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. engine backed by 8-speed automatic transmission reserved for higher trims.
Transmission for all variants will be produced by GC’s reliable partner Allision Transmission. Valve exhaust track technology also reduces the noise from the engines.
2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Diesel – Launch and Price
To be available in SLE, SLT, Denali and Platform trims, the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 diesel will be priced around $40,000. GMC is expected to launch it by late 2018 along with the new Chevy Silverado. GMC’s new Sierra 1500 has competitors in RAM 1500, Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan among few.
