The new generation 2019 Mazda CX-5 compact crossover has been spied, and it looks like this vehicle is nearing its production. Ostensibly, the CX-5 model is likely to become one of Mazda’s best-selling models of the next production year.
Our spies spotted what looks like the next-gen CX-5 wearing a somewhat psychedelic camouflage, which swathed a couple of its parts.
Does This Vehicle Matter to Mazda?
Truth be told, the CX-5 has been Mazda’s moneymaker ever since it first showed up at dealerships a few years ago. Its massive success has made it possible for the Hiroshima-based company to invest in other vehicle editions, including the MX-5 Miata.
Furthermore, it has also allowed the company to invest in technology—including G-Vectoring Control. Through the CX-5’s success, Mazda has advanced in efficiency to the extent that it can now accomplish almost 35 miles per gallon on the highway drive.
2019 Mazda CX-5 Redesign
The 2019 Mazda CX-5 is anticipated to ride on a revised version of the ongoing platform. We expect to find mild revisions on the platform, given that the current platform offers a significantly elevated driving experience. In fact, the existing platform is one of the favorite elements of the ongoing CX-5 model.
The latest CX-5 looks more evolutionary than anything else Mazda has ever created. It wears a redesigned version of the brand’s five-point grille. Worth noting, the grilles on Mazda’s redesigned CX-3, CX-6, and CX-9 models feature endpoints that flow toward the headlights. The revised CX-5’s headlamps sit at the top of the grille’s endpoints and merge with the shape of the upper lip.
2019 Mazda CX-5 Interior
While the 2019 Mazda CX-5 has a side-window graphic that resembles the incumbent vehicle, it likely benefits from a mild growth spurt. It is unlikely to take the crown as a compact crossover with the enormous amount of cargo space. Nevertheless, it will have what it takes to comfortably accommodate people and their luggage within its cabin. By the way, its interior shares some styling cues with the CX-9—especially its full-color head-up display.
2019 Mazda CX-5 Skyactiv Technology
Mazda has worked hard to develop the next generation of its Skyactiv technology named Skyactiv 2. A Mazda CEO called Masamichi Kogai told the press that the 2019 Mazda CX-5 would supply an efficient platform alongside impeccable powertrain technology. Hence, the incoming Mazda CX-5 would offer advanced variants 2.5L powertrains.
Perhaps the new engines would execute a few more horsepower and slightly increased fuel economy ratings. Mazda will avail both front- and all-wheel-drive systems alongside a manual transmission. Kogai said Mazda is planning to introduce its Skyactiv-D diesel engine in the United States.
Although this engine is unlikely to arrive anytime soon, we are sure that Mazda CX-5 could one day come equipped with a fuel-efficient diesel engine beneath its hood. Meanwhile, it is reported that the CX-9’s turbocharged 2.5L 4-cylinder drivetrain could be included in the new CX-5’s engine bay. If it’s true, it will become a tantalizing option that would improve its speed.
2019 Mazda CX-5 MSRP and Release Date
The entry-level 2019 Mazda CX-5 models would commence at $25,000 while highly optioned variants could hit $35,000 mark. This vehicle will likely show up at dealers in the second half of next year.
