With a bit more speculations and spy statistics, GM has finally taken the cloth of the 2018 Chevy Camaro ZL1 at the very apt Daytona 500 race track. After its first launch in 2012, Camaro ZL1 developed the reputation of being Chevy’s big, bold muscle car. Known to be a Z/28 successor, its 2017 launch saw some up gradation which made it a bit more track capable.
2018 Chevy Camaro ZL1 – Drivetrain Configuration
A driver and a race track, the need – lots of power and Chevy do not disappoint at all. The ZL1 variant sports a 6.2-litre VSA engine and provides almost 600 hp at the driver’s disposal with 590 lb-ft of torque. And with the 1LE variant, a 6.2-litre LT4 V8 engine comes as standard, making Chevy Camaro ZL1 2018 capable of producing twin figures of 650 hp coupled with 650 lb-ft of torque. This comes mated to a 7-speed transmission which pushes this muscle from 0-60 in less than 4 seconds and overshadowed GM’s Milford by almost 3-seconds.
Noteworthy to mention are its DSSV Spool-valve dampers which have first appeared in the Z/28 and came to Camaro as the third iteration after making through its Colorado ZL2. This suspension not only provides an adjustable rear anti-roll bar but also comes with adjustable camber plates, solid mounted front struts and a solid mounted rear cradle which enables the 2018 Chevy Camaro ZL1 to tweak its ride height as desired.
The man behind the wheels will also be happy to hear of its large 20-inch aluminum wheels with 285 width tires at both ends. These are Goodyear’s new Eagle F1 Supercar 3R, which are completely Z1 exclusive and are claimed to be the fattest tires from Chevy’s factory till date.
2018 Chevy Camaro ZL1 – Unique Feature
The 2018 Chevy Camaro Zl1 comes with black bordered LED projector headlamps along with a black hood wrap. These are couples with all satin-black mirrors, clear carbon scoop and also black tail lights. To provide better aerodynamic to this Camaro, rock panel extensions, front splitters and rear wings are designed. The mentioned black hood wrap incorporates exquisite power bulge which functions as a heat extractor and its carbon-ceramic front grille house two sharp canards at both sides giving it an even more edgy look.
Admiration can continue even inside with the Recaro seats marked with ZL1 badges knitted with red stitching. A flat bottom D-shaped steering wheel provides for better leg room space. Seatbelts tune into the red theme and a sunroof is provided as an option.
The Chevy Camaro ZL1 2018 surely has very big brakes. It measures 15.35 inches in diameter and is attached to Brembo six-piston calipers at the front. At the rear, they are off 11.7 inches attached to four piston calipers. What these Brembos do are burnouts and pretty epic ones. With a standard Camaro ABS distribution block, the front wheels are held tight making the rears free to spin for almost 15 seconds. These give enough heat to cut down acceleration time from 4 seconds to almost 2.8 seconds making it a dragster as well.
