Available in both hatchback as well as sedan types, 2018 Chevy Sonic will be made on an enhanced Gamma platform known as G2XX. Main competitors for this subcompact small car will be the likes of Honda Fit and Ford Fiesta.
Chevrolet Aveo, as it is still known in many countries, was changed to Chevrolet Sonic for specific markets in North America and the Middle East when undergoing changes in its 2nd generation. With a name change in 2011, Sonic did pretty well and has been getting its features and looks enhanced every year. Now, it is ready to come out as a new model – the 2018 Chevy Sonic.
On the inside, cabin space in both hatchback and sedan versions are set to increase. A new amenity in the form of voice recognition will be added in Chevy Sonic 2018, such as MyLink Chevy, infotainment system. Music system will be a very popular option – Pandora. Headspace and legroom will be ample in both forms of this vehicle.
Keyless entry, push-start and heated seats will be obvious features inside 2018 Chevy Sonic. The MyLink touchscreen, which will have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for your smartphone integration purposes, will be a prominent 7-inch display on the dashboard.

It is rumored to be available in a much wider color range, right from Cajun Red Tincoat to Orange Metallic Burst. The sedan version of Sonic will be available in 3 trims – LS, LT, and Premium, which was earlier the LTZ. Hatchback version will have 2 trims instead of 3, the catch being both LT and Premium versions will have better exhaust and suspension.
Sonic hatchbacks will be a 5 door car while sedans will be the usual 4 door vehicle. More stylish features are expected on the new car, adopting a new design language. Wheels will be provided with choices of 15, 16 and 20-inch diameters. New LED lights are rumored, as well as a smaller grille on the front. Tail lamps are not expected to be tweaked a lot.
2018 Chevy Sonic – Engine Specs
Just like the current model, Chevy Sonic 2018 will probably have two engine options. First is a standard 1.8-litre which produces 138 hp. Second is the 1.4-liter engine which is capable of producing a 140 hp and 148 lb-ft. torque, which is higher than the standard engine.
The 1.8-liter standard engine gives an average mileage of 25 mpg in cities and 35 on highways while numbers are 27 mpg and 36 mpg for the optional 1.4-liter engine.
Some experts however have opined that the standard 1.8-litre engine might be discontinued in favour of General Motors’ new 1.5-litre engine which produces 160 hp and 185 lb-ft. torque.
2018 Chevy Sonic – Release Date and Price
Expect 2018 Chevy Sonic to come out during second half of 2017. As far as price is concerned, base models will be available at around $17,000, while premium ones will go close to $25,000.
